Test Structure

Measures novel problem-solving without relying on prior knowledge — the purest measure of intelligence. Includes verbal and nonverbal tasks: inductive reasoning (finding rules from patterns) and deductive reasoning (applying rules to problems).
Knowledge tests vocabulary and general information. Quantitative Reasoning measures mathematical problem-solving and numerical reasoning. Both sections have verbal and nonverbal formats, making the SB5 fair across language backgrounds.

Score Guide
The SB5 reports a Full Scale IQ (FSIQ), a Nonverbal IQ (NVIQ), a Verbal IQ (VIQ), and five Factor Index scores — all with mean 100 and standard deviation 15.
The SB5 Extended IQ scale can measure scores above 160 — something no other major IQ test does. This makes it the assessment of choice for profoundly gifted children, for whom WISC-V scores top out at 160 and cannot differentiate among the highest performers.
If a child scores at or near the ceiling of the WISC-V (FSIQ 155–160), a follow-up SB5 evaluation is often recommended. Organizations like the Davidson Institute use SB5 Extended IQ scores as part of their identification criteria for profoundly gifted children.
