Reading Diagnostic
The i-Ready Reading diagnostic assesses phonics, phonological awareness, high-frequency words, vocabulary, and comprehension. It adapts based on each response.
Early reading foundations (K–2): identifying sounds, letter-sound correspondence, and decoding. Higher-grade students skip most phonics items.
Word meaning, context clues, and academic language. Tested through short passages with target vocabulary embedded.

Mathematics Diagnostic
The i-Ready Math diagnostic covers Number & Operations, Algebraic Thinking, Measurement & Data, and Geometry. It adapts to pinpoint the exact grade-level skills a student has mastered.
The largest strand. Covers counting, place value, fractions, decimals, and number sense from K through grade 8.
Patterns, equations, ratios, and proportional reasoning. Becomes the dominant strand in grades 6–8.
Score Interpretation
i-Ready reports Scale Scores and Placement Levels for Reading and Math, tracked 3 times per year to measure academic growth.
Scale Score
A continuous number indicating the student's ability level. Used to track growth over the school year — a higher scale score at End of Year vs. Beginning of Year shows measurable growth.
Placement Level
The grade equivalent of the student's performance: Early/Mid/Late Kindergarten through Grade 8+. Students placed 2+ grade levels above are often flagged for accelerated instruction.

Annual Growth
